It was named after the late Linda Ferguson (Marchand), a co-founder of the VNHS, who passed in 2018. The building took almost two years to build and cost $11.8 million dollars. On May 23, 2020, McLean was one of the first tenants moved into Thunderbird Manor. “I was at the safe house for 75 days, so over two months and then the foster care,” he explains. McLean says that he has been through some trying times learning to live independently after leaving home at seventeen. “I’ve been on a constant repetition of moving into places where it was a very poor decision to make because of the people I was going with, which led to a toxic environment.” He says that this opportunity for housing has stopped a cycle that was beginning to transpire because of a lack of safe housing. ![]() The twenty-year-old Métis man recently moved into Thunderbird Manor, a brand new affordable housing complex operated through the Vernon Native Housing Society (VNHS) in downtown Vernon, B.C. “Honestly, I feel so honoured,” says Riley McLean standing in the kitchen of his new studio apartment. says he’s honoured to be given this opportunity. Overall, Thunderbird is definitely a nice mid-town Santa Monica spot to get a drink or do brunch at.Riley McLean, 20-year-old Metis man is one of the tenants at the new VNHS in Vernon, B.C. I stuck to beer to drink, so nothing too interesting to comment on there. ![]() We weren't expecting much, but the nachos were super tasty! Would definitely order it again. For food, we opted to split the nachos (asking for the meat on the side, as one of us was vegetarian). The menu has a good variety of beers on tap + fun cocktails (including alcoholic slushies). There are also a good number of tvs to watch sports games on. Whoever decorated this place did a fantastic jobs! The bar in the middle is inviting, and the marble high top tables + booths offer plenty of different seating types/options. However, unlike other spots, it wasn't over-crowded and an hour before the game, we were still able to grab seats at a high table. Of course, given it was the big game, the place was pretty packed. Came here to watch the Super Bowl and had a great time! I'll be happy to come back and give this another chance and try some other items on the menu.Ī super cute spot with reasonably-priced drinks and bar bites. The nachos especially, didn't have much in the way of cheese/queso which was what I was looking forward to trying, having never had tex-mex before. We got the nachos and guac, and both were very lacking in flavor and took forever to get out. The food was underwhelming but again I'm giving a bit of leeway given that it was the opening night. They've got Skeeball and a photobooth, so I can see this making for a nice party place. They do have a happy hour, which is very nice, and I had the margarita, which was solid (and served with paper straws, so thank you, Thunderbird!). ![]() The bar seating is expanded, and anywhere you sit would be great viewing for sports events on the TVs. This space is much improved over the previous restaurant - the seats are more comfy, and the place was well decorated. We sat at the bar, and the bartenders were extremely friendly and attentive. We had lovely service, and good drinks, but the food was fairly average, and came out extremely slowly. Given that it was their first night, I'll forgive them for needing to work out the kinks. I visited Thunderbird on their opening night, and am very glad to have this new addition to the neighborhood. ![]()
